A local bowling club in Stirling is holding an Open Weekend in June and is welcoming all members of the community to go along and try the game for free.

Riverside Bowling Club, nestled on the banks of the River Forth, is one of 252 bowling clubs across Scotland that has signed up to Bowls Scotland’s Try Bowls campaign this summer.

Last year the Try Bowls campaign had 200 clubs sign up which resulted in over 2000 people trying the sport.

Riverside Bowling Club is hoping to contribute to the campaign’s success in 2016 by holding an Open Weekend at their club on Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5 between 12pm and 4pm on both days.

The event, which welcomes people from the local community to go along to the club and give the sport a try will see innovative equipment set up on the green which makes it easy for anyone to get involved.

President of Riverside Bowling Club, John White commented: “Bowls is a sport that most members of the family can play from around nine-years to 99-years-old.

"At our open days, and at any opportunity following them, Riverside Bowling Club aims to show how enjoyable the sport is to members both old and new and from all walks of life.

"We welcome everyone to come along and meet with some of the members and try bowls, I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

"We would love to welcome you into our club as a new member, but none the less, we welcome you just to give it a try.”
