BANNOCKBURN actress Kimberley Guthrie will take to the stage before hundreds of theatre goers when she performs in City of Glasgow College’s production of John Godber and Jane Thornton’s classic comedies Bouncers and Shakers.
Kimberley, a former pupil of Stirling High School who now studies HNC Acting and Performance at City of Glasgow College, is looking forward to portraying several different characters in the comedic play.
The 18-year-old explained: “Bouncers and Shakers is a really funny show that makes for the perfect night out
"It’s about the different types of people you come across when working in a bar.
“I’ll be playing several different roles but the main character I’ll be portraying is a fiery cocktail waitress called Nikki who wants to become an actress but doesn’t believe in herself.
"She’s a fun character to play as she sticks up for herself and is very confrontational.
“I’ve really enjoyed the rehearsal process so far and feel like I have learnt so much. I really enjoy working as part of a small cast and seeing the different ways in which people approach their roles. It’s been great fun.”
Bouncers and Shakers is being staged at Glasgow’s Scottish Youth Theatre as part of City of Glasgow College’s annual Creative City festival.
The popular event, which runs for three weeks from Monday 27 February, features a variety of public events and exhibitions which have either been organised by students or will showcase their work.
Kimberley first decided she wanted to pursue a career as an actress after attending a drama summer school in 2015 and has since gone on to perform in the stage production of Trainspotting at The Citizen’s Theatre in Glasgow.
She said: “As an actress, one of the greatest feelings in the world is performing onstage in front of a live audience and seeing how they react to your work. I’m really looking forward to it.”
Anne Macleod, acting and performance lecturer at City of Glasgow College, praised the efforts of Kimberley and the rest of the cast during rehearsals.
She said: “Bouncers and Shakers is a fantastic play and we’d encourage City of Glasgow College students, staff and members of the public to come along and see it.
"Each of the students have been cast in multiple roles which will be great experience for them to have for when they leave college.”
Bouncers and Shakers will be performed at Glasgow’s Scottish Youth Theatre from Tuesday 14 – Thursday 16 March.
