THERE has been a call for “drastic action” to prevent future deaths after a person was struck by a train at Cornton this week.

Sadly, the person was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident just after 10am on Monday, October 28.

British Transport Police were at the scene with paramedics and the line was closed for more than an hour.

A spokeswoman for BTP said: “Officers were called to the line in Stirling at 10.12am on Monday, October 28, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.”

It is understood the person was struck at a level crossing in the area.

Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Alexander Stewart is a daily user of the railway line.

He said: “I am shocked and saddened at the news of this tragic event on the Stirling/Dunblane/Alloa line at Cornton, literally minutes from my door.

“My thoughts immediately go out to the family and friends of the casualty and likewise to the driver, crew and passengers of the train, who would have witnessed this awful event at first hand.

“I shall be writing to Network Rail to explore as to what they now plan to do in order to limit or prevent pedestrian access to the line at or around the Cornton Crossing, as some drastic action must now be taken to further prevent wherever possible, this happening in the future.”
