A YOUNG entrepreneur has been spending her free time selling handmade tartan scrunchies.
Bella Gemmell, a P7 pupil at Fairview International School, makes the scrunchies in the style of the school’s very own tartan.
She has been selling the accessories with all proceeds going to Reanimate, a charity in Stirling that provides a safe space for people and animals to help deal with the after-effects of trauma.
Bella addressed the school during assembly and told all pupils and parents about her enterprise, which saw business take off immediately.
She said: “I first had the idea to make the scrunchies when my mum had the school tartan material and was teaching me how to sew.
“I wanted to raise money for a charity that is close to my heart, I love horses and have been riding since I was a little girl.
“I chose reanimate as my charity and feel so pleased that I can help raise money for them.
“I feel really happy that all my hard work has paid off and I’m proud to see my scrunchies worn around the school. It was amazing to see that after my announcement at the assembly, I sold out of scrunchies instantly.”
David Hicks, headteacher at Fairview Bridge of Allan, said: “We’re very proud of Bella here at Fairview and admire her initiative and efforts in supporting such a wonderful local charity.
“We are delighted to see our students follow their passions whilst also gaining some fantastic practical life skills.
“Our teachers and curriculum help inspire students to take responsibility for their own learning and we are thrilled to see this ethos materialise into wonderful achievements such as this.”
