SOME of the last pupils to study at St Mungo’s Academy are looking to organise a reunion to mark 40 years since the school closed.
St Mungo’s closed in June 1984, with the buildings demolished to make way for the construction of a new road.
Pupils were then moved on to either non-denominational schools nearby or to St Modan’s in Stirling to pursue a Roman Catholic education.
Now, three former pupils are aiming to track down as many former pupils and staff members as they can to mark four decades since the school closed down.
Kim Reid is part of a trio organising the reunion, alongside Malcolm McGregor and Anne-Marie Woods, and are hoping to get in touch with anyone who attended the school prior to its closure.
Speaking to the Advertiser, she said: “We’re trying to organise a reunion for ex-pupils and staff members at the Dunmar Hotel in October.
“We thought since we’re all getting on a bit, now would be the best time to do it.
“We’re holding a disco and a buffet, but it’s mainly just to allow everyone to have a catch up and a get together and reminisce about old times.”
The group initially hoped to hold the reunion in Alloa Town Hall, but were too late in booking the venue.
Instead, the reunion will be held at the Dunmar House Hotel on Friday, October 11, featuring entertainment and refreshments.
In addition to the get-together, Kim is also seeking old photos of the school and pupils to share with everyone on the night.
Kim added: “We’re looking to try and get some old photos of the school and just make a right night of it.
“It’d be nice for the teachers and try to touch base with some of them since the school closed 40 years ago.”
