A STIRLING UNI team has managed to scoop a national award this week.
The Women’s First Team received Team of the Year from Tennis Scotland, the national governing body, at a Gleneagles ceremony on Tuesday, April 9.
It followed a triumphant 2018 which saw them clinch the top spot at the European Universities Games in Portugal and the British Universities & Colleges Sport in Sheffield on top of being runners-up in their national league.
Robert Leck, president at Stirling University Tennis Club, said: “It’s an honour for the team to be recognised with this national achievement.
“It was certainly a fantastic year for them, and we’ve already added to our successful streak by winning the BUCS National Championships.”
More than 70 finalists were shortlisted across 14 different categories at the awards.
Blane Dodds, chief executive of Tennis Scotland, added: “Our ambition is to not only harness the success of our players on the world stage, but deliver a legacy that inspires more people across Scotland to play at a local level, and we can only do so with the support of many dedicated coaches, clubs and volunteers like those recognised in our awards.
“I’d like to congratulate the University of Stirling’s women’s team for their well-earned achievement and for everything that they are doing to help encourage more people to pick up a racquet and have some fun.”
